Silver Jubilee 1977
Scottish Style
The Queen celebrated her Silver Jubilee in 1977, and in response many of the British bus companies imaginatively painted some of their vehicles silver to mark the occasion.   In Scotland only the municipal and PTE groups took out their paint brushes – there were no silver SBG vehicles.   When she visited Scotland, she must have been impressed by the fine Atlanteans and Ailsas, and especially by the whisky adverts they all carried.
As The Queen prepares to celebrate 50 years on the throne it seems like only 25 years since the last jubilee.   Standby for those golden buses.
