Kings in The Machars November 2002
In April 2002, after years of conjecture, Stagecoach Western's sub-depot in Whithorn finally closed.   From that time, Kings of Kirkcowan started operating the tendered services in the Machars including the routes from Newton Stewart to Port William (415) and Girvan (359).   Most of the drivers transferred companies, and Kings bought an additional six vehicles to cover the extra duties.   Kings are now the largest operator in Wigtownshire, as they already had a large collection of coaches.   This article charts the beginning of a new era in the Machars.
One of the busiest times at Dashwood Square in Newton Stewart is around 14h00, when services to and from the Machars pass through, as well as those to Dumfries and Girvan.   Seen above are MacEwans N4SKY as well as Kings R827FSX and R241KSC.
