In the 1970s Stranraer had a large fleet of Bristol MW6Gs.   DT1592 (OCS714) basks in Winter sunshine, January 1976.  Same place, same tree.   SS439 (WGA908V) in late Autumn sunshine, September 1994.   The Stagecoach axe finally fell on the tree the following year. Double deckers spend most of their lives at Stranraer on schools duties.   Re-united for Christmas are SR869, SR871, SR882 and SR858 - December 1994.

The ex-Kelvin Mercedes minibuses were almost indestructible. SZ208 (D108NUS) is seen on the Stranraer local in December 1991.   Some would say that minibuses look better at night. For over ten years SV198 (WLT720) was the pride and joy of Stranraer depot.   It ended its days at Cumnock in Stagecoach stripes.  Seen at Lewis St depot in December 1991. In the early 1990's Western lost all of the main rural services under re-tendering.   SS518 (YSD818T) waits at Portpatrick terminus before returning to Stranraer in December1991.

Stena Line offers a variety of day trips from Belfast to Scotland, which are covered by private operators and Western.   174 (WLT874), 175 (VCS376) and 132 (UWP105) are seen freshly returned from duty in August 2000. Stranraer's double deck fleet was whittled down to two vehicles in 2000.  Both are ex-A1 Olympians - 901 (HSB698Y) and 902 (CUB72Y), seen at the depot in August 2000. Interurban 160 (P160ASA) spends its day on the X75 service, performing one return journey from Stranraer to Dumfries/Carlisle.   Photographed  at the depot in August 2000.

Several of the former London Bristol RE's finished their days in Stranraer.   One such - DT2072 (DSD713D) - is seen at the depot in January 1976. Girvan depot operated the (3) service from Stranraer to Glasgow.  Their Seddon T-type, AS2645 (RCS699R), is seen hiding beside the now-demolished knitwear factory at Port Rodie in December 1982.. In 1979, Stranraer received a batch of five Seddon T-type (2933-7).   SS2935  (DSD935V) is seen at the depot in December 1982.  Along with 2934, it spent its entire life at Stranraer.

Fleetlines served at Stranraer from 1977, when the first ones ousted Bristol Lodekkas, until 2000 when the last ones were replaced by Olympians.   There were three groups of real Western SMT Daimler Fleetlines.   Seen above left is a representative of the first batch - SR1970 (BCS953C) - at the depot in August 1977.   Above middle are two vehicles from the second group - SR2094 (GCS156E) and Northern/Counties bodied SR2099 (GCS160E) - in July 1984.   From the final group is SR275 (PCS801H), above right,  at the depot in December 1986.

The village of Sandhead and the beach of Luce Bay provide the backdrop to Seddon SS980 (DSD980V) en route from Stranraer to Drummore in December 1986. SS473 (DSD973V) at Girvan in the fading light of Christmas Eve 1991.  It was about to leave on the (359) service to Newton Stewart, operated by Whithorn depot. Stranraer depot had L2626-30 from new.   SL629 (OSJ629R) is seen at Drummore in July 1984.   It is now preserved at the Scottish Vintage Bus Musuem in black/white livery.
