Stranraer Buses Photos 2
The X77 service from Glasgow to Stranraer ran for about 18 months from 1995 to 1997, and was operated by up to five Volvo/Interurbans based at Girvan depot.   Left: L584JSA at Stranraer depot in December 1995, middle: Girvan sister L583JSA at Glasgow Buchanan Bus Station in wintry December 1995, right: 128 (M166CCD) at Buchanan Bus Station in April 1996.

The Belfast to London service started in 1975.   One of the first M-type Bristol RE's to operate the route was MT2208 (NAG114G), seen at the depot in May 1976. The NAG-G RE's were replaced by a batch of TSD-J's, of which ST2347 (TSD128J) is seen here at the depot in September 1981.   These were the longest serving M-types at Stranraer. Members of Western's third and final batch of M-types served briefly on the Belfast route.   Volvo B58 SV2537 (HSD708N) is seen in the depot in June 1983.

In July 2002, the Stranraer to Ayr and Stranraer to Portpatrick services were connected to make the unusual Ayr to Portpatrick route.   In addition, Stranraer based vehicles started operating through to Ayr for the first time in many years.   Above left: Ayr depot's Golden Jubilee 505 (M488ASW) is seen at Stranraer Port Rodie heading for Portpatrick; above middle and right: Stranraer's 521 (R521VSE) and 522 (R522VSE) at Girvan and Ayr respectively.   These vehicles were originally allocated to Whithorn sub-depot for the Girvan to Newton Stewart service.   All vehicles seen in August 2002.

Groundhog Day:   Same place, same route, same rotten weather, same day, one year later.   On the left Western Scottish 522 (R522LSE) near Challoch on the (359) service from Newton Stewart to Girvan on Christmas Eve 2001.   On the right Kings SJI4427 at the same place on the same route on Christmas Eve 2002.   Western gave up the Machars routes to Kings in March 2002.

The tender for the trunk Stranraer to Dumfries service was recently changed from MacEwan to Stagecoach Western, which came as a surprise as MacEwan had operated the route for over 10 years.   Left: Western Seddon SS856 (BSD856T) at the now demolished Port Rodie stances on the (76) service in July 1984.   Middle: MacEwan used a weird and wonderful collection of vehicles on the service including this unusual Volvo B7R, S45KSM,  seen at Newton Stewart on the (500) service in December 1999.   Right: Stranraer depot has received two refurbished Volvos from Bluebird including 20519 (R519VSE) seen here at Lewis Street in May 2003.
